Happy Monday morning to all my favorite Blogites! (Blogees??). Hope you are all doing well today and ready for more adventures!
As promised, we will refine values a little more. Last week I talked about finding some peak experiences in your life - stuff that really impacted you in a big way. Hopefully you were able to think of some and perhaps even take a few notes. That will help with today's exercise.
Last week I told you about my peak experience in the mountains and some key words in that experience for me were: nature, beauty, risk. The next step for me would be to ask: where are these values playing out in my life right now? Are are they even present? Well, I'll start with nature. I love getting outside but here in Winnipeg, our winters are cold. I don't mind the cold but the wind makes for a very unpleasant walk or skate. So am I missing nature? Absolutely!! However, I did have my glut of greenery and underwater delights in Mexico just a few short weeks ago so I am certainly not complaining. And seeing how it's already well into March, I anticipate spring with much excitement.
What about beauty? That is something I need to work on. I am in the midst of redoing my bedroom right now and it's a little bare and a little bland. I need to step that up. However I did buy lovely Ralph Lauren sheets last week and they are very floral and very spring-like. They are lovely and everytime I walk into the room, they do give me pleasure. So I'm working on that. How about risk? That is something I have sort of on an ongoing basis. I am getting my speaking/coaching business off the ground and am constantly putting myself out there and trying different things.
So look at your values and ask yourself how these are playing out in your life right now? Where are they present? Where are they missing? How can I start bringing my values into my life more fully? It's not an all or nothing exercise. Our lives are constantly on the ebb and flow. Sometimes you will be living your values strongly and other times - not so much. However, it's a good thing to be aware of. I want you to be living out your values and to be living a full life full of who you really are and what's important to you. Then you will feel fulfilled and will also be impacting those around you. When you're living full, you can't help it. Your good stuff will spill out!! Have a wonderful, FULL week and we'll talk next week.
